Six Reasons Clients Work With Us
Senior Advisers Throughout
The people you meet during the scoping conversation are the same people who conduct the work. No delegation to junior analysts after the contract is signed.
Narrow, Focused Scope
We work in three defined areas rather than offering a broad menu of consulting services. That focus means each engagement is handled by someone who has done similar work many times before.
Direct Communication
Findings are presented plainly, in writing, without softening that makes the point obscure. If something in the business needs attention, we say so clearly.
Grounded in Malaysian Realities
Our advisers have worked in and around Malaysian businesses for most of their careers. We understand the ownership dynamics, family considerations and market conditions that shape decisions here.
Written Deliverables That Last
Every engagement ends with a document the client can return to. Not a slide deck designed for a single presentation — a written record of what was found and what choices are available.
Fixed, Transparent Pricing
Fees are set at the start and do not change during the engagement. There are no hourly rates that accumulate unpredictably, and no additional charges for standard scope activities.
In More Detail
What Each Benefit Means in Practice
Professional Expertise
Between the three senior advisers at Bayu Strategi, there are over four decades of experience advising Malaysian businesses. That experience is not evenly distributed across every possible topic — it is concentrated in the three areas we offer: strategic direction, family succession, and operating model design.
This concentration matters. An adviser who has worked through fifteen family succession processes will notice patterns and pitfalls that a generalist would not recognise until they become problems. The same applies to operating model work and strategic direction engagements.
Structured Process
Each engagement type has a defined structure — a sequence of working sessions, a set of questions we explore together, and a form that the final document takes. That structure is not rigid, but it means the engagement has a shape that the client can follow and hold us to.
The structure also means that time is used deliberately. Working sessions are prepared for in advance and the client is not required to spend engagement hours on administrative coordination that should happen before the meeting.
Client Service
Responsiveness matters in advisory work. When a question arises between sessions, the lead adviser is reachable directly — not through a general inbox or a support function. Messages are responded to within the working day.
We also recognise that the most important conversations sometimes happen informally. If a client wants to talk through a development that has arisen since the last session, that is a normal part of the engagement, not a chargeable add-on.
Value and Pricing
Our pricing reflects the scope and duration of each engagement type, set in advance and stated plainly. The Strategic Direction Review is RM 580 for a four-week engagement. Succession Planning is RM 1,950 for a twelve-week programme. Operating Model work is RM 3,200 for a four-month engagement including implementation support.
There are no hourly rates, no additional charges for standard scope activities, and no retainer structures that extend indefinitely. When the engagement scope is complete, the engagement closes.
Results and Outcomes
The outcomes of advisory work are not always immediate and are sometimes difficult to attribute directly. We are careful about how we describe results. What we can say with confidence is that clients who complete an engagement leave with a clearer view of their situation and a documented record of the options available to them.
A number of clients have returned for subsequent engagements as their businesses have moved through different phases. That continuity, though not a goal in itself, suggests the initial work was useful enough to build from.

What Sets Us Apart
Distinctive Features of Our Practice
Referral-Only Growth
We have never taken on a new client who was not introduced by someone who knew our work. That model keeps the number of active engagements small and the quality of attention high.
One-Adviser Continuity
A single senior adviser leads each engagement from the first meeting to the final handover. There is no internal handoff and no knowledge lost in transition.
Documents Written to Last
Deliverables are written in plain language and structured so a senior person who was not in the room can read and understand the reasoning behind each recommendation.
No Public Client List
We do not publicise who we work with. Clients are not used as references without explicit permission, and engagement details are never shared in case studies or marketing materials.
