How We Work

Our Advisory Approach

Each engagement begins with an initial conversation — no charge — to understand the business situation and confirm that the scope of the relevant engagement is appropriate to it. If both sides agree to proceed, a brief letter of engagement is issued that sets out the scope, the fee, the key dates, and the deliverables.

Working sessions are structured around questions rather than presentations. The adviser prepares an agenda for each session, shares it in advance, and uses it to guide a genuine conversation rather than to present findings that are already formed.

All engagements close with a written document. The form of that document varies by engagement type — a short options summary for a Strategic Direction Review, a succession framework for a family engagement, an operating model specification for a redesign project — but in each case the writing is the adviser's responsibility, not the client's.

Initial Conversation

Free, no obligation. About an hour. Both sides decide whether to proceed.

Letter of Engagement

Scope, fee, dates and deliverables agreed in writing before work begins.

Working Sessions

Structured conversations, led by the senior adviser, with prepared agendas.

Written Deliverable

The engagement closes with a clear document the client keeps and can act from.

Strategic Direction Review

Engagement 01

Strategic Direction Review

A four-week engagement intended for owner-led firms and mid-sized businesses considering their next stage of growth. The review includes a working session with senior leadership, a structured look at market position, customer concentration and operating margins, and a short written summary that sets out two or three honest options for the path ahead.

The aim is not to prescribe a course but to give the leadership team a clearer view of where they stand and what choices are realistically open to them.

What is covered:

  • Market position and competitive landscape
  • Customer concentration and revenue dependencies
  • Operating margin analysis
  • Two to three realistic growth options
  • Written handover document

Process:

1

Initial briefing and document review

2

Two working sessions with senior leadership

3

Adviser analysis and options drafting

4

Final session: presentation of written summary

  • Written succession framework document
  • Annual review questions list

Engagement 03

Operating Model & Organisational Design

A senior advisory engagement for established businesses where the structure has grown over time and now feels misaligned with the strategy. Over four months we work with the leadership team to map current accountabilities, identify the few decisions that are slowing the firm down, and design an organisational shape that reflects how the business actually wants to compete.

Includes monthly steering sessions and a final retrospective to assess how well the transition has held.

What is covered:

  • Current accountability mapping
  • Decision bottleneck identification
  • Redesigned operating model
  • Two-quarter transition plan
  • Monthly steering sessions + final retrospective

Process:

1

Discovery: interviews and document review

2

Design: leadership workshops (two to three)

3

Transition planning and model documentation

4
